Paintings are more than just works of art. they are signatures. To the naked eye, they all look the same, but look a bit deeper and you will find that artists have an aptitude to 'mark their territory" on the art grid with their own individual style of painting. THE BUZZICOCKPIT CREATES BUZZ

It's all around us. The natural elements of design are in our presence. While Greek philosophers characterized matter into earth, fire, air, and water, the philosophers of design have also classified spaces into atmosphere, color, geometry, and texture. French designer Alain Gilles becomes the king of the entire buzz when he designs the BuzziCockpit. Everybody needs their own personal cocoon! Just like butterflies need to live like hermits for periods of time as caterpillars, human beings need their own personal space to ensure having their peace of mind. Some would even say that this is universal human right. BuzziCockpit is just what people need to take a break from the wear and tear of everyday life. Designed by Alain Gilles, this new set uses the human psychology to cater to human desires for serenity and pleasant surroundings. It's possibly this new concept that shall redefine the normally formal, uptight office settings.

THREE LITTLE WORLDS

Last August, Canadian architect Jimenez Lai combined his cartoonish reality with architectural principles in a new thought-provoking exhibition at the London Architectural Foundation. The concept of the matrix is to create a reality beyond the one we live in. It's a substitute world, which coexists within the world, constantly fusing and parting from it. One firm this August did just that. In a move that rocked the architectural world, the Canadian architectural firm Bureau Spectacular showcased its new cartoonish installation at the London Festival of Architecture in a project led by Jimenez Lai and three others. The installation seeks to tell a story of unprecedented drama. It seeks to show the viewer how structure when shaped in certain forms can reflect certain ideas. Through color and abstract thinking, Lai creates his own world, an alternative reality which flirts with fantasy, an algorithm of apocalyptic proportions. In essence, the exhibition consists of three "rooms" in form of installations which serve to simulate scenes from a comic book. In doing so, one could definitely say that the installation is infused with a mixture of elements, including Hugh Hefner's exhibitionism and Joseph Beuy's concept of merging art with life. Viewers have an opportunity to become part of the Lai's fantasy world through experiencing it and fusing it with one's spirit. It's made to be a display for inside and outside of the gallery. It's purely psychedelic! Lai refers to it as an "abstract hotel" encompassing a vast plethora of different ideas. The exhibition includes everything from lectures and seminars to film-screenings and dinners. One can say without a doubt that they are the architectural foundation of fantasy. 40 ASK

ADDING THE EXTRA MEOW!

It wouldn't be surprising to discover that the imagination of a child is such that it extends beyond the limits of the universe. This year CIA International taps into that small part of the mind, which we call the imagination to reveal a new way to making a childhood experience a whole lot better through design.

CREATING SPACE BEYOND PLACE

Realizing the place which you call home can be more of a challenge that you could ever expect. Yet, realization comes from the efforts of many for just a privileged few to see. Team 7 exhibits their products in Milan this year to help many of its viewers come to this universal truth that will breathe life into their homes.

LIGHTING UP MINDS

You can truly appreciate the light only after you’ve experienced the darkness, or so they say.

TELLING YOUR STORY

Contemporary furniture is characterized by powerful gestures, candid shapes and personal narratives. Designers strive to create environments that tell stories about their owner's personality and values. Every shape, pattern and color in our homes is an attempt by us to tell our personal story about who we are and what we aspire to.
