DIGIT...THE ULTIMATE SPATIAL INSTALLATION

Japanese designer Yoshimasa Tsutsumi certainly outdid himself this time. Digit, a project taken up by Tsutsumi, has been showcased at the Diesel Art Gallery this year. It draws upon questions that designers often ask themselves about "showing things"What Tsutsumi created was in essence a interior design and funky new spatial installation which takes advantage of the current move towards modernism that none have ever seen before. The display uses flexible walls to display the merchandise, exuding a youthful sense of organic fluidity. "Like a cave dug in a cliff, or fossils hundreds of millions years old trapped in lava, when something is buried in another entity, it constitutes an inseparable whole with the background. If we apply this to the shop display, we should be able to develop a new display method where goods and space are fused with each other," said a press statement from the Diesel. "To create a plastic wall, we have devised drawers made small to the limit and piled them in huge numbers."
